Pancreatic Cancer Report 2025 (NPaCA/NATCAN)

Reports | Published: 11 Sep 2025

The National Pancreatic Cancer Audit (NPaCA), part of the National Cancer Audit Collaborating Centre (NATCAN), has published a report on care received by people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer between 1 January 2021 to 31 December 2022 in England, and 1 January 2022 and 31 December 2023 in Wales. It found that the percentage of people who survived for 30 days was 78% (England) and 79% (Wales), and for one year was 23% in both England and Wales.

The percentage of people who survived for 30 days was 78% (England) and 79% (Wales)

The report found that close to two-thirds of people with pancreatic cancer are diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic disease across England and Wales. Therefore, it stresses the importance of reviewing the diagnostic process for these patients, to ensure they receive supportive care early. Audit results also found that only 54% of people with pancreatic cancer in England received a diagnosis within 21 days (national recommendation).

This report makes five clinical recommendations including:

  • Map diagnostic pathways and benchmark processes in line with hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) cancer pathway guidance
  • Review pancreatic cancer referral pathways to ensure all patients are discussed at an appropriate multidisciplinary team meeting
  • Ensure a personalised approach is taken to optimise a person’s fitness, nutrition and medication to prevent deconditioning prior to starting treatment.
