Programme overview

Perioperative care refers to the practice of patient-centred, multidisciplinary, and integrated care from the point of consideration of surgery to full recovery (i.e. the non-technical aspects of surgical pathways).

The National Clinical Audit of Perioperative Care (NCAPC) aims to reduce unwarranted deviation from evidence-based practice in the perioperative pathway, and thereby reduce complications and increase patients’ health-related quality of life.

HQIP commissioned the Royal College of Anaesthetists to deliver the NCAPC in October 2025, with the first year being used to design the optimal methodology to audit care.
