New improvement reports published

We are pleased to announce that the following NEW RESOURCES to support improvement in healthcare, from HQIP’s audits and programmes, have been published:
Musculoskeletal & rheumatology
- Beyond hip fracture; Falls and Fragility Fracture Audit (FFFAP) – National Audit of Inpatient Falls (NAIF) report examines both preventative care before a fall and the quality of care provided afterwards.
- Rheumatology; National Early Inflammatory Arthritis Audit (NEIAA) – State of the Nation summary report 2026 highlights that earlier assessment and treatment continue to be associated with better patient outcomes.
- Joints; National Joint Registry (NJR) – annual report 2026 contains full analysis of hip, knee, shoulder, elbow and ankle joints, and shows a continued reduction in joint revision surgery.

Emergency bowel surgery
- Emergency laparotomy; National Emergency Laparotomy Audit (NELA) – eleventh patient report shows continued improvements in outcomes, with 30-day mortality falling to 8.1%, while highlighting ongoing variation.

- Early intervention in psychosis; National Clinical Audit of Psychosis (NCAP) – State of the Nation 2026 report highlights substantial variation in access to NICE-recommended interventions.

- Neonatal care; National Neonatal Audit Programme (NNAP) – Summary report on 2025 data examines partnership in care, neonatal care processes and neonatal outcomes.

Cancer
- Bowel cancer; National Bowel Cancer Audit (NBOCA) – State of the Nation report highlights continued progress in several areas of bowel cancer care, alongside persistent variation in practice and outcomes.
- Prostate cancer; National Prostate Cancer Audit (NPCA) – State of the Nation report shows that the number of prostate cancer diagnoses continues to rise rapidly.
- Kidney cancer; National Kidney Cancer Audit (NKCA) – State of the Nation report examines diagnosis, surgery and systemic treatment, finding that biopsy use remains low and surgical delays have worsened (this report was published on 22nd Sept 2026).
