New patient video: My breast cancer story
21 Oct 2026
To mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month, HQIP is sharing the full video interview with patient representative and advocate Sharon-Ann, who speaks openly about her breast cancer journey, following the publication of the article My breast cancer story: From heartbreak to hope earlier this month. This powerful video interview offers the opportunity to hear her story – from diagnosis and treatment through to becoming a powerful voice for patients – in her own words.
Data can show us where things may be falling short, while patients explain what that actually feels like and what needs to change”
In the video interview, Sharon-Ann reflects on the importance of early detection, person-centred care, and involving patients in decisions about their health. She also explains why healthcare data and patient experience must be considered together, helping services to deliver effective treatment AND take into account what care feels like for the people “behind the numbers”, as Sharon-Ann puts it.
By sharing Sharon-Ann’s story as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, HQIP aims to highlight the value of listening to patients and using their insights, to improve care and outcomes. Her experience also offers an important reminder to undertake regular checks, and seek medical advice if you notice any changes.
