Case study: Improving post-covid care (influencing change)
16 Oct 2025
This case study from the 2025 Clinical Audit Hero Award Influencing Change category runner-up, East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust Long Covid team in partnership with KiActiv, showcases how their project used clinical audit to evaluate and improve care for individuals experiencing Post-Covid Syndrome.
Led by Sarah Fowler (Clinical Audit Facilitator) and a multidisciplinary team comprising Tommy Parker (CEO of KiActiv®), Ewan Cranwell (KiActiv®’s Informatics Lead) and Lamprini Kaftantzi (Senior Advisor – Commercial – at Health Innovation East), this project assessed the effectiveness of a new digital intervention integrated into routine clinical care for patients experiencing Post-Covid Syndrome.
Key achievements include:
- Support of 474 patients to date, with a high enrolment (96%) and completion (84%) rate
- The in-year financial Return on Investment (ROI) of £8.55 per £1 spent.
The case study recommends embedding structured evaluation metrics from the outset of projects, as vital to achieving success. As such, it highlights how collaborative, audit-informed innovation can enhance recovery pathways, relieve pressure on traditional services, and deliver measurable value across clinical, operational and financial domains.
