National Vascular Registry (NVR)

Delivered by:
Royal College of Surgeons of England

This programme measures the quality and outcomes of care for patients who undergo major vascular surgery in NHS hospitals, and so supports vascular units in the UK to improve the quality of the care received by patients.

The NVR aims to improve the care of five main vascular procedures:

  • Repair of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) and aortic dissection
  • Carotid endarterectomy and stenting
  • Lower limb angioplasty/stenting
  • Lower limb bypass surgery

Lower limb amputation.

Supporting improvement

National guidelines underpin the management of people with vascular conditions, against which the NVR evaluates patterns of care. To support improvement in care, the NVR has created a dedicated Quality Improvement section of its website, with tools, case studies and other resources.
