National Asthma and COPD Audit Programme: COPD clinical audit 2019/20

This report presents the results from an analysis of data derived from the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) clinical audit component of the National Asthma and COPD Audit Programme (NACAP). The COPD audit is continuous and captures the process and clinical outcomes of treatment in patients admitted to hospital in England, Scotland and Wales with COPD exacerbations.

This report, which is the fourth report post-launch of continuous data collection, presents data describing the cohort of patients discharged between 1 October 2019 and 29 February 2020 – the period just prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Key process measures included in this report are:

  • review by a member of the respiratory team
  • oxygen prescriptions
  • availability of spirometry results
  • smoking cessation
  • provision of a discharge bundle and elements of good practice care
