We are seeking an experienced senior leader to help turn the National Joint Registry’s strategy into effective, coordinated delivery.
As Deputy Director of Operations, you will work closely with the NJR Director of Operations and lead across governance, performance and analytics, and operations and contract management. This is an opportunity to shape how a major national healthcare registry delivers its priorities, manages its resources and works with its partners.
The National Joint Registry (NJR) collects and analyses information about joint replacement surgery across England, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, Guernsey and Jersey. Its work supports patient safety, quality improvement, clinical practice, research and the monitoring of outcomes for patients, surgeons, hospitals and orthopaedic implants.
The NJR is hosted by the Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership (HQIP), an independent organisation established to promote quality in healthcare and increase the impact of clinical audit on healthcare improvement. HQIP also manages national clinical audit programmes on behalf of NHS England and other commissioners.
Deputy Director of Operations (NJR)
The role will include:
- Coordinating delivery across three operational portfolios, resolving competing priorities, dependencies and risks.
- Leading financial planning and oversight of budgets, income, subscriptions, resources and value for money.
- Providing senior oversight of contracts, suppliers and commercial performance, including significant negotiations and escalations.
- Ensuring strategic priorities and NJR Board decisions are translated into clear, accountable action.
- Line managing and developing three Associate Directors, building a collaborative, capable and resilient management team.
- Providing assurance and advice on operational performance, finance and risk, and deputising for the NJR Director of Operations.
You will bring substantial senior leadership experience in a complex healthcare, public-sector or comparable organisation, with a strong track record in financial planning, contract management and delivery across multiple teams or portfolios. You will be comfortable advising senior governance bodies, navigating complex decisions and developing other leaders.
We are looking for someone with sound judgement, strong communication and negotiation skills, and a collaborative and inclusive approach to leadership. You will combine strategic thinking with a practical focus on delivery.
HQIP is a home-working organisation. The post is permanent, 37.5 hours per week, with travel within the UK for meetings, conferences and team events, including occasional overnight stays.
