Dr Thomas Salisbury
National Medical Director’s Clinical Fellow
Dr Salisbury is an ophthalmology registrar and clinical informatician. He is seconded to HQIP as a National Medical Director’s Clinical Fellow (2025Ð26). He will be working across HQIP with a focus on the NCAPOP programmes as well as looking at how information can be leveraged from within electronic patient records, making data easier to capture and use for improvement. A Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, Thomas first trained as an optometrist before medicine and brings a practical, patient-centred approach to digital change. During his ophthalmology training, he has led the Royal College of Ophthalmologists ePortfolio re-design for their new curriculum and has supported deployment of digital systems across multiple hospital services and the North East and North Cumbria ICS. He holds a PGCert in Clinical Data Science and has completed a Topol Digital Fellowship. His research has focused on digital assessment of falls risk in people with visual impairment, alongside publications on AI, imaging and data diversity.
