National Audit of Eating Disorders (NAED)

Delivered by:
Royal College of Psychiatrists (RCPsych)

Eating disorders are among the most serious mental health conditions, with high morbidity and mortality, making early intervention essential. This programme aims to improve the identification, timely management, and overall quality and consistency of eating disorder services for children and young people (CYP), adults of working age, and older adults across England.

NAED collects, links, analyses, and reports data on access, treatment, and outcomes to provide a national picture of how services are performing. Following the first comprehensive overview of the structure, capacity, accessibility, and quality of eating disorder services in England in 2025, NAED is working to collect data on workforce composition and capacity to support service improvement as well as bring together multiple national datasets with the voices of patients and families. By highlighting demand, capacity, waiting times, staffing, and outcomes, the audit supports the development of more equitable and effective services nationwide.

Supporting improvement

NAED has established a dedicated Quality Improvement (QI) Network, with the aim of supporting registered audit teams with project design and QI methods through training workshops and webinars, linked with NAED’s healthcare improvement goals. The NAED QI Network offers a range of support and resources. Further information can be found on the QI Network section of the NAED website.
