Established in 2009, this programme has the continued aim of helping epilepsy services and those who commission health services, to measure and improve the quality of care for children and young people with seizures and epilepsies. With strong clinical leadership, a modern digital platform and meaningful youth involvement, Epilepsy12 delivers real‑world change – improving access to specialist care, strengthening care planning and transition, advancing mental health support, and informing national policy. A key element of Epilepsy12 is their Youth Advocate programme, where young people and families are able to shape the audit, whilst developing public‑speaking, analytical, teamwork and life skills.
The role of Epilepsy12 is vital to driving measurable improvements in care and treatment for children and young people in the UK. Crucially, Epilepsy12 measures the aspects of care that children, young people and their families tell us matter most, ensuring the audit remains grounded in real experiences and meaningful outcomes.” Alison Fuller, Director of Health Improvement & Influencing, Epilepsy Action
Supporting improvement
Epilepsy12 delivers a strong and sustained programme of quality improvement (QI), built around ten nationally agreed Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and five healthcare improvement goals, developed with healthcare professionals and children and young people. Through regular stakeholder engagement, national learning events with published case studies, monthly and real‑time KPI dashboards, and alignment with national guidance and initiatives, the audit enables services to identify gaps early, benchmark performance and take targeted action, and promotes shared learning between peers.
