HQIP (Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership) is an independent, not-for-profit charity that manages the largest national clinical audit and outcome review programme in the UK, on behalf of NHS England, the Welsh Government and others. Covering a wide range of common conditions, our work provides publicly available data that is trusted by patients and clinicians alike, and supports evidence-based improvement in healthcare.
A national home for audit, registry and outcomes data professionals.
Clinical audit is a way to find out if health or social care is being provided in line with standards. It lets care providers and patients know where their service is doing well, and
where there could be improvements, to enable improvement in the quality of care to take place where it will be most helpful and will improve patient outcomes.
Quality improvement is the systematic use of methods and tools to continuously improve care and outcomes for patients.
By measuring healthcare services, our programmes – which consists of national clinical audits, outcome reviews and registries – provide evidence for what is working well and where improvement will have maximum impact. As such, they support healthcare providers to implement changes that will improve care and outcomes for everyone.
Our programmes generate a wealth of information that is already collected and ready to use, offering an invaluable resource in the drive for transformation.
HQIP commissions the UK’s largest suite of national clinical audits and outcome reviews (the National Clinical Audit and Patient Outcomes Programme, NCAPOP), and hosts the largest orthopaedic registry (the National Joint Registry, NJR) in the world, on behalf of NHS England, the Welsh Government and others. They cover a wide range of conditions, from asthma to vascular health.
The NHS Standard Contract requires relevant providers of NHS services to participate in the National Clinical Audit and Patient Outcomes Programme (NCAPOP). NHS Trusts are responsible for funding a proportion of the NCAPOP costs through a process known as subscription funding.
