Sentinel Stroke National Audit Programme – Sixth Annual Report

Reports | Published: 09 Jan 2020

For this sixth annual SSNAP report, data from more than 85,000 patients were submitted to the audit, representing over 90% of all strokes in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. In total over 6 years, more than half a million cases have been recorded to date.

The report shows that there have been major improvements in stroke care in recent years in England, Wales and Northern Ireland with the national audit and the standards emanating from clinical guidelines playing a major role in supporting this improvement. Despite this the report highlights areas of care which demonstrate variation nationally such as getting patients onto specialist stroke units within four hours of arrival at the hospital and in improving access to specialist psychological support.
