National Vascular Registry Short report: Developing and implementing implantable medical device capture for aortic aneurysm repair

This short report describes the results of a pilot project to implement the capture of implantable medical devices used in procedures to repair aortic aneurysms.

The results in this report are based on an extract of activity taken from the NVR IT system in March 2021, and covered the period from January 2020 to February 2021.

The report contains valuable information on the:

  • process undertaken by the NVR team to incorporate devices on the NVR IT system including the ability to scan barcodes directly into the NVR
  • number of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) procedures with device information
  • type of repair for elective and non-elective surgery, e.g. open procedures
  • type of device and components used during the procedures.
