HQIP/CQC ‘NCA data for QI & QA’ workshop report publishes

Published: 16 Jun 2016

The report from last November’s joint HQIP/CQC workshop – entitled ‘Using Trust-level national clinical audit data for QA and QI’ – is now live.

The purpose of the workshop was to outline the progress with the collaborative endeavour between HQIP and CQC to optimise the use of National Clinical Audit (NCA) data for both quality assurance and quality improvement, including supporting CQC inspections with clinically relevant high quality data.

The event featured presentations from HQIP medical director Professor Danny Keenan and CQC chief inspector of hospitals Professor Sir Mike Richards, including updates on progress of the CQC collaboration. This has seen HQIP consulting with clinical leaders from across the National Clinical Audit and Patient Outcomes Programme (NCAPOP) to create comparative data slides on key areas from the clinical audits to support CQC inspections and other across the service.

Following the consultation, the project begins with suppliers for six audits providing data to create slide packs for each acute Trust in England. The next step is a localised trial among medical directors in the North West this summer. It is then hoped these can be published by autumn 2016 with the eventual aim of including data from all audits in NCAPOP.
