Expression of interest: National Audit of Retrospective Asthma Deaths

Updated: 28 June 2010

HQIP is pleased to announce the expression of interest for the national clinical audit of Retrospective Asthma Deaths. This expression of interest notice for a public contract was placed on OJEC on 14/5/10.

The proposed national retrospective asthma deaths audit will aim to look into, expand and answer audit questions relating to the following areas: (1) Identification of triggers  (2) Risk assessment ( psychological and behavioural, allergic factors including  Alternaria and Aspirin sensitive, seasonal and treatment issues)

It is envisaged that the outcomes of the proposed national retrospective asthma audit should:

  • lead to important changes in the way that asthma is managed in primary and secondary care
  • to encourage the teaching of patients self management
  • to highlight how resources should be focused to improve outcomes (measured by a reduction in hospital admissions, emergency GP and A&E visits) and
  • it should most importantly help to identify preventative causes of asthma deaths.

The supplier is expected to pilot and develop a national retrospective audit into all asthma deaths that covers both paediatrics and adults and develop a methodology for a full project, previous methodology can be further developed and should be detailed in the tender.

The supplier is expected to provide information on the source of quality criteria (guidelines) and be able to link the audit development with NICE guidance, professional standards, patient/service user standards etc, and develop how these criteria will lead to improvement in the delivery of asthma care both at self management and primary care level.

The supplier is expected to manage the project to cost, quality and time using a sound recognised project management tool and a proven audit methodology to work with identifiable stakeholders and to set up a multidisciplinary project board, implementation group and project team.

The supplier must demonstrate throughout the projects duration the ability to maintain good and effective working relationships with the key professional bodies and clinicians at local level supplying the data.

HQIP seeks an expression of interest from suppliers with vast experience in specialised clinical, academic leadership and governance as the contract requires sufficient specialised clinical, academic leadership and governance to ensure successful delivery of the project.

DURATION: Three years

DEADLINE:  The request to participate will end on 03/07/2010. Full audit specification available from August 2010.
