Background to the Audit of Audits

The Audit of Audits identifies good practice within audit work streams and provides advice for improvements to design and delivery. It is designed to help individual programmes enhance their roles in delivering high quality national audits that can contribute to improvements in the quality of patient care provided in NHS organisations. The Audit of Audits national report

Published in December 2014, this national report provides overviews, background and methods, as well as the national findings for national clinical audit scope, structure, governance, and audit impact. It is based on findings from 54 individual reports from national clinical audits. To see these reports, please go to the Audit of Audits homepage.

The overall findings of this national report show that NCAs have a strong governance framework in place including the use of data. Examples given by the NCAs show both local and national impacts with data being used by Professional Bodies and Societies, Commissioners, Department of Health and Regulators to inform change.
