Patient and Public Involvement

PATIENT & PUBLIC INVOLVEMENT

Introduction to PPI & clinical audit

Effective patient and public involvement/engagement (PPI/PPE)in clinical audit is fundamental to good quality improvement practice, and as such its promotion and support is at the forefront of HQIP's objectives.

To date, this has seen the creation of the Patient Network, with members working with HQIP to help map its PPI strategy.  During 2009 this came to fruition with the launch of HQIP's comprehensive 'PPE in Clinical Audit' guidance (pdf), which signified the first landmark in the organisation's ongoing stragegy to help and encourage successful PPE in clinical audit.

HQIP promotes involvement throughout the entire audit cycle and in this section we aim to provide the tools to help make that a reality.  For more information or suggestions, contact HQIP Development Officer Kim Rezel on either 020 7469 2511 or via kim.rezel@hqip.org.uk.

HealthWatch updates

The Health and Social Care Act 2012 aims to put patients at the centre of the decision-making and for commissioner priorities to be informed by engagement with local communities. HealthWatch England and local HealthWatch will be launched in October 2012 to help in ensuring that the views of the public and the people who use the services, are taken into account. HealthWatch is being developed as a statutory part of the Care Quality Commission (CQC). Its role will be to champion service users/patients/carers across health and social care, while Local Involvement Networks (LINks) will become the local HealthWatch.

Two members of HQIP's Patient Network are involved in local pathfinders for HealthWatch and will help update this section with new information from HealthWatch.
