Clinical Audit Awards 'boost team performance and increase profile', 2009 winners say

6th January 2010

With entry deadlines for this year's HQIP Clinical Audit Awards just over a month away, 2009's winners are celebrating the impact the recognition had on their teams and their organisations.

Last year saw the likes of Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust claim the prize for Programme of the Year, while Alder Hey Children's NHS FT secured top spot in the Patient Involvement category and the team at Hampshire Partnership NHS FT was honoured for its Sustained Improvement.

Martin Stephens, Associate Medical Director (Clinical Effectiveness) at Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust, said the honour both bolstered his team and helped galvanise the audit process at Southampton:

"We were delighted to receive the HQIP award for audit programme of the year," Stephens said. "It gave the team a real boost, raised the profile of clinical audit 'from board to ward' and encouraged us to strive for even higher standards."

Hampshire Partnership Quality Improvement Team Manager Heath Gunn agreed: "The HQIP award was the culmination of a sustained period of hard work and development by the Quality Improvement Team, and it was great to see their efforts recognised at a national level," Gunn said.

Deadline for entries for this year's awards is 12th February.

Categories for 2010 include Partnership Working, Sustained Improvement, Patient Involvement, Local Improvement Following National Audit Participation, Patient Safety and Creating/Improving efficiencies. There is also the Gold Award, which will be awarded to an audit covering three or more categories.
