NCAPOP calls for proposals for new audit topics
10 November 2008: The National Clinical Audit and Patient Outcomes Programme (NCAPOP) this month invited proposals for new national clinical audits.
Funded by the Department of Health, and managed by the Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership (HQIP), NCAPOP is seeking to fund new national audits to add to its current group.
Initially short proposals for audit topics were requested, along with a specific audit approach to be carried out. From these proposals, topics and approaches will be prioritised and detailed proposals will then be invited through open tender, which may receive up to 3 years full funding.
New audit priorities will be set by the National Clinical Audit Advisory Group (NCAAG), an independent advisory group to the Department of Health, and will cover secondary or primary care in NHS or independent health settings, through to social care. Proposals are welcomed from any professional group, area of practice or setting, in England and Wales.
Proposals will be shortlisted by NCAAG and the list will be published on HQIP's website.
HQIP will invite further proposals for new audits in 2009 - either on themes that have been chosen centrally or on other topics. The National Clinical Audit Advisory Group will both advise which topics should be audited, and determine which proposals under the responsive round should proceed to become invitations for tender.
Additionally, unsolicited proposals will be considered at any time, and if there are ideas for new audit areas we welcome these from organisations with the relevant expertise. These will be considered by NCAAG, who will either decide to proceed to invite tenders for that audit topic or advise that the idea will be considered, along with other invited proposals at a point in the future.
