NICE and the National Clinical Audit

The National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) publishes a yearly planner of which national clinical audits (those commissioned by HQIP as part of NCAPOP and also non-NCAPOP audits) measure against NICE guidance on its ‘Measuring the use of NICE guidance’ page.

From this page you can download the ‘Impact Audit Publications Planner’ which lists the NICE guidance compliance measured by each audit, and by selecting a hyperlink in the guidance/quality standard column, you will be taken to the NICE uptake database where you can see the audit results that relate to individual NICE recommendations and quality measures.

NICE measures the use of NICE guidance and standards using data from national audits and reports, journal papers and local audits. Where possible, it shows the changes in use over time.

This data can be used to:

• Find audits relating to NICE recommendations
• Assess levels of uptake over time
• Compare guidance uptake at a regional and national level
