27 April 2009: Part of a wider drive to support clinician engagement in audit, the Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership (HQIP) is pleased to announce a new fund to support the development of multi-site clinical audits.
Multi-site audits are those where different hospitals or other clinical sites based in different areas (eg a GP practice) participate in a shared audit.
HQIP already commissions and supports national clinical audits into conditions or interventions that merit national attention, and promotes local audits which address local issues or complement national audits.
However, some topics fall between the two; conditions or interventions applied in particular settings which could be benchmarked against other centres or regions, but which are not national in coverage, those that only affect a small number of patients or are relatively less established.
Around the country there are groups of clinicians with interests in specific conditions or less common treatments, or clusters of hospitals that share a common concern.
HQIP's new fund will support these groups as they build up clinical audits to assess compliance with guidelines or emerging best practice.
The fund will appeal to groups who are new in their work, or who represent less common specialties or sub-specialties, and it is designed to support the audit aspect of these clinical groups' work.
Funding is available for up to three years at a maximum of £10,000 per year and proposals must be received by 31st May 2009.
Further rounds will follow at a later date.
