HQIP seeks proposals for GP clinical audit guidance tools

5 September 2011

HQIP is seeking proposals for a raft of educational tools to help GPs conduct effective clinical audit.

Proposals are sought from experts in the field of clinical audit who are experienced in primary care and commissioning.

HQIP wishes to commission guidance for GPs which must address both provider and commissioning roles and to enhance their skills and competence in conducting audit of their own practice and using clinical audit as part of commissioning.

Topics covered will range from conducting clinical audit as part of revalidation and appraisal requirements through practice based audit to choosing and assessing clinical audits that follow the patient pathway as part of the role of clinical commissioning groups.

Product Specification

HQIP recognises the need for guidance and training materials specific to GPs in relation to clinical audit. We are looking for material that covers three key aspects of using clinical audit to improve the quality of patient care; measure outcomes and aid the development of newly qualified GPs in clinical audit. These are:

  1. Carrying out a clinical audit that results in clear improvements to patient care that can also be used as evidence of further developing clinical practice as part of appraisal prior to initial revalidation, and thus for those newly qualified as GPs
  2. Audit within continuing practice of more experienced GPs including multi-disciplinary clinical audit carried out within or between GP practices / medical centres as healthcare providers.
  3. How clinical audit can and should be used by commissioners to measure the quality of patient care across the patient pathway.

Format

We are looking for comprehensive guidance materials that cover the aspects described above. This could include training resources to accompany any written materials. We are looking for innovative methods of training and developing GPs in these areas, this may include an e-learning package and /or a classroom based workshop designed for cascade training.
