2 November 2011

As part of its ongoing remit to support, improve and reinvigorate health and social care quality improvement, in particular regarding clinical audit, HQIP today announces a four-point plan which looks to address a number of challenges, in these areas:

  1. Improving the national clinical audit programme
  2. Creating a consultancy resource for clinical audit and registries
  3. Information addressing the relationship of audit and register data to information, outcomes and transparency
  4. New funding for Multi-site audit and registry development

Basic details on this four-point plan are outlined below and for specific details on 'improving national audit' click here, and for the more on 'audit and registry consultancy resource', including application details, click here

Regarding points 3 and 4, more will be added as outstanding information is finalised. Please check the news area for updates and register for the HQIP eBulletin to ensure you have the latest information at the earliest opportunity.

Details of the four-point plan:

1.       Improving the national clinical audit programme

Starting this month (November 2011), with support from the Department of Health (DH), HQIP is starting a rolling programme of improvement of aspects of the national audit programme. This is designed to improve the functionality and effectiveness of the programme and addresses some issues raised by local and national stakeholders. Click here for full details >>

2.       Creation of a consultants list

HQIP is inviting consultants to supply their details for inclusion in a proposed new marketplace of specialist consultants who can advise in relation to national or local clinical audit and registers. This project will not endorse any consultants listed, but it will provide a central point of identification to anyone involved in audit or registry operation to see a list of people active in their area to avoid the need for additional searching. 3.       Information in the NHS

HQIP has produced a position paper on Information which addresses the relationship of audit and register data to information, outcomes and transparency.  Click here for further details>>

4.       New funding for multi-site audit and registry development

The DH has very kindly provided some funding to enable HQIP to invite further rounds of multisite clinical audits and registry development funding. Full details of both of these will be posted in the news area on this website shortly. The registry criteria have changed since the first round and the new version will again be available online soon. HQIP will invite ideas for topic areas at the same time as inviting bids and triangulate these, and where we receive no bids in interesting areas, invite further bids.
