Development & funding for new national clinical audits
HQIP will normally invite applications for new national clinical audits in January each year, eg in January 2010. However this will only happen if funding is available. At the present time the budget for 2010-11 is fully allocated, however if funding becomes available proposals will be invited. Periodically we will commission audits on specific topics as decided by the Department of Health with advice from the NCAAG group.

The National Clinical Audit Advisory Group advises which topics should be funded as national audits, and which submitted proposals should be subject to tender; and determines which tenders against identified topics should be approved.
For information and guidance about how audit topics and proposals will be prioritised for funding within the NCAPOP programme, and the criteria for assessing tenders, click here.
In all circumstances an open tender procurement approach will be applied before funding is available. Our procurement page details current procurement activity for national audit.

Support for emerging audits
HQIP is keen to talk with new groups or consortia who are interested in developing new national audits and registers, whether funding is available at any time or not, such as national patient charities, Royal Colleges or specialist societies, or Departmental policy leads. Our development team would be happy to discuss potential new topics for audit and/or outline what is required from a new bidder to obtain funding, and to help these ideas become potential bids for funding in future funding rounds. If you would like to discuss an idea for an entirely new audit, please contact the development team, led by Elaine Young. However, if your proposal is an extension of an existing audit, please contact the contracts and procurement team, led by Helen Laing.
We welcome discussion on topics where only part funding is required, and indeed part funding proposals are encouraged, such as where there is a stream of income from industry or charitable or patient sources.
We will also consider proposals for development funding, to progress a multi-centre or regional audit to a national audit, or to develop a national clinical database or registry into a quality improvement process or full audit. Those looking to make proposals of this type should discuss them with the Development team at HQIP at the idea stage.

National clinical audits not funded through NCAPOP
HQIP offers support and training opportunities to national audits not funded through HQIP. We are always interested in finding out about the work of these audits in as much detail as they wish to supply. We are currently developing a mapping of such audits. To participate, complete and return this questionnaire.
