Event for clinicians acting as audit leads set for Durham University
HQIP is hosting free regional clinical audit event at the Lindisfarne Centre, University of Durham on November 3 aimed at clinicians who act as clinical audit leads.
Topics for discussion include the establishment of a regional network for clinicians and speakers include John Hignett, chair of the North East Clinical Audit Network and Gillian Mathews, representing NICE.
They will be joined by former South Tees Medical Director (and now part-time clinical gastroenterologist and HQIP Clinical Champion) Professor Mike Bramble, who will be speaking about the new clinical audit strategy for the North East.

11.05: The role of HQIP in promoting national clinical audit and providing educational resources: Mandy Smith, HQIP quality improvement facilitator
Mandy joined HQIP as part of the Quality Improvement and Development Team in July 2009 working with clinicians and clinical auditors, regional clinical audit networks and other local and national organisations to support and encourage participation in clinical audit. Her role is to encourage participation in clinical audit which is an essential part of quality improvement and quality assurance.
11.35: The establishment of a clinical audit network in the north east of England and future work with NICE and NEQOS: John Hignett, Chair of NECAN
John has extensive experience of supporting and undertaking clinical audit in both the Community and Acute sectors of health care and developing clinical audit database and tools to support audit activity. Over the past 13years John has provided clinical audit training to a very wider range of people from patients to school students and most disciplines of staff within the NHS. More recently he co-authored the regional clinical audit strategy.
12.05: Implementing NICE clinical standards - making them work for better patient care: Gillian Mathews, Implementation Coordinator, NICE
Gill Mathews is the Implementation Consultant for NICE in the North of England. She joined the team in May 2007, after working for five years in national roles supporting the development of Coronary Heart Disease Collaborative and cardiac networks. Her previous experience of the health service includes two years as a practice manager, developing multi-practice working with the development of PMS practices and emerging PCTs.
12.35: A regional strategy for clinical audit in NE England - why we need to do better: Professor Mike Bramble MD FRCP
Mike Bramble was the Medical Director at South Tees NHS Foundation Trust from 2005 to 2010 retiring from this post to work part time as a clinical gastroenterologist. From 2010 -2011 he worked with NEQOS on clinical engagement with all the Trusts in the North East, as well as co-authoring a regional clinical audit strategy with John Hignett and becoming an HQIP Clinical Champion.
