Clinical audit programme - Guide and tools

A guide for producing a Clinical Audit Programme

This guide has been developed with the intention of providing advice and tools on how to produce a Clinical Audit Programme. It describes the processes of choosing and prioritising topics for clinical audit projects that reflect key national and local drivers for quality improvement ('top-down' requirements) balanced against directorate / division / service priorities and the interests of clinicians ('bottom-up' initiatives).

Tools to aid in the production of a Clinical Audit Programme

A number of tools accompany this guide. These include:

  • Trust Clinical Audit Programme Template
  • Quality Impact Analysis tool
  • Flowchart describing ‘How to create Trust or Directorate/Division/Sector/Service Clinical Audit Programme
  • Healthcare Governance Performance Managed Tool for Clinical Audit.

The tools are not intended to be prescriptive, but can be adapted for local use.

Please note that, in order to protect the environment, HQIP resources have been designed to be printed in duplex, ie double-sided. If you choose to print single-sided, blank pages will appear within the document. Furthermore, HQIP tools and templates are designed using Microsoft Office packages and may lose formatting should they be opened in other formats.
