Wales: Clinical Audit and Outcome Reviews (Confidential Enquiries)

Coverage of audits and enquiries in Wales

HQIP commissions the national audit and confidential enquiries (or outcome review) programme in England. The Welsh Government then decides which of these will operate in Wales, and HQIP works closely with the Welsh Government to support how these are carried out in Wales and provide support and advice on national audit policy generally.

The coverage of audits and enquiries in Wales can be found in the Quality Accounts list >>

National Strategy for audit in Wales
The Welsh Government has produced a national strategy for audit in Wales and can be found below:

NHS Wales National Clinical Audit and Outcome Review Plan 2012/13 (pdf) >>

HQIP contributed to this document and is part of the national steering group which created it: the National Clinical Audit and Outcome Review Advisory Committee (NCAORAC) under the Chairmanship of Dr Bruce Ferguson, Medical Director for Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board.

Events
The Welsh Government is promoting the closer alignment of audit and broader quality improvement in Wales and held a seminar on 10 May 2012 to develop this. Presentations from this day can be found here: http://www.1000livesplus.wales.nhs.uk/spring12-master-classes

Case studies on clinical audit and QI in Wales:

Local audit in Wales is not HQIP's responsibility although we give advice and information as requested and all the materials on this site are free to use in Wales, although we cannot offer funding for local audit in Wales.

The Welsh Clinical Audit and Effectiveness Association (Cymdeithas Archwiliad ac Effeithioldeb Clinigol Cymru) chaired by Arlene Shenkorov is the network group for audit professionals in Wales.
