Child Health Reviews-UK update

The Child Health Reviews UK (CHR-UK) case review project is looking at cases of children and young people with epilepsy, who have either died of any cause or been admitted to intensive or high dependency care following a prolonged seizure, in order to identify where care received may have contributed to adverse outcomes.

Consultant clinicians, who see children or young people with epilepsy in child or adult services, are being asked to notify the research team of cases meeting the review inclusion criteria between 1 June 2012 and 31 March 2013. Consultants in all UK countries are now receiving monthly electronic notification cards. Response rates have increased by 26% between June and September 2012, however the review team are taking steps to further improve this.

All consultant clinicians who see children or young people with epilepsy in child or adult services are asked to register for these monthly emails, if they do not already receive them. If you are a clinician, or are responsible for clinical audit for a trust whose consultant clinicians are not receiving these monthly emails, please contact us:

Quantitative clinical questionnaire data provided by notifying clinicians will be used to provide information about the population, and a sub-set of cases will be subject to further analysis through explicit criterion-based and implicit holistic assessment of case notes from different healthcare settings.
